Question:

>Is it alright to lay completely ontop of the ostomy?        Several >yoga moves require Me to lay flat on My tummy

Hi Snowyowl, I would think if you don’t feel any pain when you lay flat on your abdomen, then it should be okay.  I also do yoga and do not have any problems with lying  on the stoma area. >Will the intense stomach stretching cause a hernia?

I believe that yoga and other abdominal exercises are most beneficial for the person with an ostomy in order to strenghthen the muscles, thereby preventing a hernia. >What is the recommended  weight lifting limit for ostomates?

This question should probably be answered by someone who knows your personal conditioning and the fact that you have an ostomy.  Everyone would be different, whether they had an ostomy or not. Have a great day, Joy

Hi, Can I ask a few questions? I took My first Yoga class last week. My questions are:   Is it alright to lay completely ontop of the ostomy?        Several yoga moves require Me to lay flat on My tummy. I wonder about the stoma and of course the pouch opening. Should I tell the instructor that I have an ostomy? I am worried about doing this! Small town and much gossip….Maybe tell Her that I had abdominal surgery so she need not place hands on My belly to correct poses? Will the intense stomach stretching cause a hernia? What is the recommended  weight lifting limit for ostomates? Thank You very much for "listening!"
